First of all I never played the Wii U version, so I don't know if there was any particular differences from the Wii U Version from the 3DS version.
Anyways, this is the complete package of Hyrule Warriors right here.
1. It's more graphically impressive and runs at a steady 60 FPS 1080P on docked mode. Defently superior than the Wii U version and 3DS version graphics and FPS.
2. You get ALL the DLC, from the DLC characters and maps! Hell of a deal. You also get the 2 exlusive costumes for link and zelda from breath of the wild, they look pretty nice.
3. There are 9 adventure mode maps. I don't remeber how many the 3DS had but I think it was only 2, then the 2 DLC adventure mode maps.... And then I think nintendo put an extra 6 adventure mode maps exlusive for the switch? I could be wrong but in any case after you completed the main campaign this mode is were your going to spend most of your time in. They also added a shop were you can buy items in adventure mode for ruppies, which thank god they did otherwise the grind would be double as long.
4. There are now level 4+ wepons if I remember correctly from Nintendo's direct.
5. The fairy system is nothing new but ya, it's there.
6. It's a warriors game, It's GOING to be very repetitive. If you just finish the main story and thats it... Then you only played 1/3 of the game. You can easily lock in HUNDREDS of hours to grind for your skill tree, find heart containers and gold sulkas or whatever it's called. Oh right another new addition they apparently added in is that you can now switch between characters in combat, even though I'm pretty sure you could do it in the 3DS version as well.
Hyrule Warriors is probably the best warriors game to date. It's refreshing to play link with his master sword and hyland shield without breaking it (looking at you BOTW). So ya even if your not a warriors fan, you should play it anyways if your a zelda fan.
The only areas where this doesn't quite live up to the Wii U version is the omission of online connectivity on the Adventure Mode (no more "Network Links," yes...that is a pun). While this isn't a deal breaker, and the game finds other ways to get your challenge and rare items in, I do miss seeing them and the challenge of playing on a stage with a higher level "Network Link." Another change for the worse (versus the Wii U version) is that two player games come via splitscreen. Now the splitscreen is fine, and works as well as it does in Fire Emblem Warriors (and better than it does in a lot of the older Musou games), but if you played the original release on the Wii U, where one player plays on the fullscreen TV and the other on the screen of the Wii U Controller (something you simply cannot do on the Switch), then it is a step-down.
New in this version (at least to those who originally played on the Wii U) is the previously 3DS-only My Fairy mode, while allows you to find fairies on the battle maps and then feed, dress and generally level them up. How you feed and dress your fairy will impact your stats in some way, depending on how it is equipped and what level the fairy has attained. This is a nice touch, and my girls absolutely love it. Daddy just wishes there were some facial hair options, but he'll get over it (there's always Tingle).
Also new is the inclusion of new Breath of the Wild costumes in this version. It's a cool inclusion, and the other players in the household seem to enjoy them, although this player will always go with the Classic "Excuse me Princess" tunic.
Ultimately, if you've never played Hyrule Warriors before, then this is a must buy. If you're done with Fire Emblem Warriors and want another Musou fix on the Switch, then this is a must-buy. If you want to play Hyrule Warriors on the go, with all of the DLC, but have only ever played the Wii U version, then again, this is a must buy. I'm not all that crazy about how Nintendo has basically rereleased all of the top-tier Wii U titles on the Switch, but most of the games, like this one, are standouts. Hyrule Warriors was one of my favorite games on the Wii U, and now it's one of my favorites on the Switch. It's good to see it on a platform where it will get its due.
Back to the story, I love how it blends characters and locations from past Legend of Zelda games to form a new story. Having only been a casual player of any Zelda game past the first on NES, it helps me learn more about lore and history of Hyrule.
My only con is the badge system, that requires you to build all the badges separately for each character. It's a bit tedious. The leveling aspect is nice though, where you can exchange Rupies for quickly leveling up characters you don't personally use as much (useful when they join you on a mission so they can at least hold their own and not constantly require your assistance).
Highly recommend!
