Really good build quality but I got a lemon...
Just got this computer today as of 02/12/2018 The packaging was great and it shipped very fast. was impressed. It is a heavy tower, for what little is here. My opinions are mixed, so bare with me. Opening up the tower, my first worry was that the CPU cooler wasn't going to be enough. However, I was surprised to see its got some heft here. The heatsink looks more than capable for this CPU and I cannot wait to see what its actually capable of. It is slotted with 12GB of RAM (4GB and an 8GB) and my tower had nice cable management. The DVD drive seems to act like one from a Laptop with the quick eject. Plenty of IO, and it seems it will be able to handle what i need to throw at it, until my 1050 TI gets here to upgrade the graphics. The PSU looks to be pretty standard and will handle any standard size PSU (up to 500W so I've read) and I have went ahead and bought a beefier PSU as i am kinda unsure the provided 300W will be enough for all I want to do for upgrades (What it lacks in space in the case, I will make up for in so picky RGB choices)Some bad things, in my opinion. The mouse and keyboard are clearly made for baby hands. I am sure I could break the keyboard on just mental thought alone, and the mouse seems to follow suit. The keyboard is small and cramped where the arrow keys sit underneath the Shift key, and thats going to throw me off a bit. (plans to get a gaming mouse and keyboard are on track)Major complaint is that my tower didn't boot. Tried the BIOS to see what would boot first and its stuck on the Windows Manager boot option, where its trying to find something it can't seem to find. Black screen and nothing more. I will have to make a boot disk, hence the -1 Star. Extra work on my end that I really didn't want to do, but I don't want to wait for a replacement as my laptop is on its last legs here. I will just have to make it work. All and all, this could be a very cool "sleeper" beast of a gaming rig, provided all the spec sheets I have found are accurate. Not sure the 7 inch GPU length limit holds true, as I feel it might be able to cram a bit more, but I will have to wait til mine gets here.*UPDATE* after 10 mins or so, the computer restarted and prompted me to connect to the Wi-Fi to grab an update in order to possibly fix its hang up. 10 mins later, it seems to be ok, and I can finish the set up. Annoyance but it beats having to format and reinstall...still not happy. I hope the rest of my experience goes better...

This PC is a STEAL! At just under $500 I have no idea how they get such good parts into the machine for this price. As someone who was looking to get into PC gaming this is the perfect starter system as the specs are comparable to some $600+ "entry-level" PCs. There are a lot of options for upgrades if youre looking to own this PC for a while and upgrade the parts one at a time to make it into a truly great gaming rig. Some tips to make this thing worth a lot more than you buy it for and improve its performance for gaming are to add in any dedicated gpu (be careful as some cards may require you upgrade the standard but relatively small 300W psu), any standard ssd (the 7200rpm 2TB hdd isn't terrible and is pretty quick - with more than enough space for any user - but you'll always get faster performance from an ssd), and of course a larger and more efficient power supply. Some more thoughts: the on board graphics are fine for regular office use and web surfing but are sorely lacking for media consuption like movies and video games. The Core i5 is a fantastic mid tier cpu but youll have a better experience overall by stepping it up and replacing it with an i7. Additionally the 12GB of drr5 ram is more than enough for everyday use and is a good middle-ground between a lot of cheaper rigs with only 8gb or the much more pricey 16gb systems. The case isnt anything special but there are a plethora of usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports for all your peripherials. The included mouse and keyboard are usable but underwhelming and I'd reccomend using other ones, especially if you're going to be gaming, but even if you're just going to be doing work on it.

This is a well designed computer package for most users. I found the boot up speed to be exceptional. 12MB of memory and 2 TB of hard drive make this an excellent value. Out of the box set up took little time as it picked up a number of Microsoft updates. However, one of the best things about this machine is the total absence of ad-ware from Acer or others. Just a nice clean blank screen to begin building on. Wireless setup was flawless. Find the router, enter the passcode and your online. Most users will want to replace the wired mouse with a wireless one. The keyboard is very adequate and functional. There is room to add other drives such as an SSD and accessory cards. This computer will be used to stream or church services. I'll update after we improve our internet speed. I recommend and would buy again. Other reviewers have indicated this machine, with the addition of a dedicated graphics card would make a suitable gaming computer.

Update: this PC will not take a standard SSD. Both SATA plugs are tied to the HDD and optical drive. But, you can add an M.2 form factor SSD to the motherboard. I'll write a separate review on the Crucial M.2 drive.

I received my TC-780-ACKi5 about two weeks ago so my comments are first impressions only. The computer was well packaged and shipped within a larger box with air cell packing. On power up the unit locked into Windows 10 Update mode which took about a half an hour...Windows 10 will not take no for an answer. I shut down and re-powered the unit...boot time was reasonable but not exceptional.
After installing a few programs (Excel, Word, Chrome, Photoshop, etc) the benefits of CPU & ram became evident. Programs load reasonably quick, internet is fast, and editing photos is amazingly fast. CPU intensive programs really shine. Once cached, programs load quickly. I found assigning a 64GB thumb drive as Readyboost in a USB 3.0 port further improved performance. Some say Readyboost is ineffective but I have successfully used it on several machines.
I would have rated this computer as 5-star but there are negatives. Acer should skip the keyboard and mouse and give the buyer a price break. The included units are unworthy of the quality of this computer. Second, there is no documentation, no quick set-up card, nothing is included with the computer! Next is the lack of expansion slots. You can install a dedicated video card but the top rated cards are physically too big to fit. There is one PCI Express slot and nothing else so be prepared to attach any add-on's via USB. The DVD drive is flimsy and appears to be adapted from a laptop. It works but better to download your new programs.
That said my first impression is quite positive. The TC-780-ACKi5 features are outstanding considering the price. It is fast and appears to be well made. Improve upon a few issues, add documentation, and add (dreaming) a SSD at this price point and Acer could rule the desktop segment.

Really a great price for the hardware u're getting. Saved me easily $250 from doing it myself. Easy setup, Windows 10 preloaded, didn't even have to enter a key. Once up an running the software automatically activated itself. Very little bloat wear loaded, hard drive nice and quiet and responsive. Keyboard and mouse were cheap, didn't bother using them. Even saved an additional $50 because it was on sale when I got it. Had a SATA PCIe 2-port add in card so I installed it along with a one slot PCIe video card. May add a SSD down the road but right now its not really needed. If u're looking for a very nice, all around system for light game play and home use get it, I purchased it for my wife and she loves it. Very happy camper. Can't believe how quiet it is.

Con: Very limited on what you can upgrade, motherboard is really locked down. Only 2-SATA ports and a M.2 slot. Because of the size of the power supply u're video card will be limited. I knew all this going in so it was really no surprise. Some very nice YouTube videos on this computer, check them out.
